Historical: Castles, Palaces and Chapels

With its 400 castles & ruins South Tyrol is the area in Europe with the richest collection of castles. The area around Merano is particulary prominent. These architecture gems of past times can still be visited or have been renovated in order to house events, museums or guesthouses and restaurants. Close to Lagundo you will find magnificent examples of castles from the 13th century, Forst Castle and Lebensberg Castle, as well as Tyrol Castle housing the South Tyrolean Museum of History and Juval Castle housing one of the four Messner Mountain Museums.

In and around Lagundo you will come across many chapels and churches, each one with its peculiar history and traits. The parish church of Saint Josef is for example one of the most modern churches in the entire alpine area.

Experience seasonal delights and traditions

Whether spring or autumn… the seasons still determine the lives of many people in an environment where nature still plays a major role. A unique occasion to get to know the habits of our region and experience traditions that have been handed down over time.

In spring, visit the “Rural Pleasure Promenade“, a gourmet promenade where you can taste high-quality local products. The manufacturing history of the products is interesting – production has always taken place under different climatic conditions at three altitudes. All your senses will thank you for having been on this pleasure mile.

In autumn in Algund you can experience local traditions coupled with culinary seasonal highlights: from the harvest festival to the farmers’ market to the traditional Törggele.
